GHODAGHODI LAKE AREA AS AN IMPORTANT BIRD AREA

Image
Home Gallery About Us Location Contact Us Globally, the important role of birds in providing ecosystem services, and their aesthetic, cultural, and biodiversity value face many threats. Many species face extinction as a result of habitat destruction, hunting, and pollution of air and water. More recently, the threat of global climate change as a result of anthropogenic carbon emissions places many species under additional pressure. Birds are present in almost every environment, and are highly visible and well known, making them excellent indicator species of environmental health, and as "umbrella' species for habitat conservation. Recognition of these factors has lead to the development of a system of "important Bird Areas" world wide, highlighting regions with special significance for bird conservation, through their biodiversity, uniqueness, or significance for migratory species. HOME        GALLERY        ABOUT US        LOCATION        CONTACT US The lake is fed by direct precipitation during the monsoon season and by surface flows from the  watershed area, ground water springs and small streams. Water depth varies from 1-4 m. Secchi depth  transparency and high phoshor level indicates the lake as hypertrophic, the nitrogen level as eutrophic, and low Chlorophyll “A” level (due to rich growth of macrophytes) as oligo to mesotrophic. Dissolved oxygen is low with a minimum of 3-5 mg/l. Hydro
